The First Wave. Milan in the time of Covid-19

When in February the first news arrived in Milan that Covid-19 had chosen the surroundings of the city to make its appearance in Europe, no one could imagine how much our lives would change. Before the lockdown was finally declared, MIR Cinematografica together with other Milanese realities, namely Milano Film Festival, AIR3 Italian Directors Guild, NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti di Milano, PROXIMA MILANO and Operà Music, launched a call to action, open to all audio-visual professionals operating at different levels in the filmmaking industry.57 filmmakers have responded by sending observational, reflexive and intimate contents ac- cording to their own artistic visions.The idea behind the documentary consists in composing a mosaic of filmmakers' gazes, who are not mere observers of the emergency; the collective challenge is to go beyond the mere surface of things by offering personal readings of their reality and a new meaning to the events in their very becoming.
