Jivani (1846–1909), born in a village near Akhalkalaki, Javakheti, with the name of Serob Stepani Levonian, is Armenia’s most beloved ‘ashiq’ (bard) and poet. Weaving carefully together music and images, Khachatryan conjures a visual poem of aching beauty that is also a spark of hope for a better tomorrow. An unusual road movie that bridges the gap between the past and the future, the dead and the living.
