A station in thick fog, tracks that disappear into the white mist and a figure, waiting. Views of nature merge with brief and almost surreal encounters with people living in their own worlds. We meet an astronomer who’s been looking for planets outside our solar system for 25 years and who “would be pleased” if we weren’t alone in the Universe. A musician who is also searching, but for the “right” woman, or a weather observer who incessantly “translates” atmospheric conditions into numbers. These are just a few of the characters who share the more or less hidden desire to make contact, to interact. With its deeply sensorial approach, the film “feels” like a walk through the fog in the mountains. The disorienting feeling of loneliness is fragmented by moments of clarity, which carry unexpected images and connections. Structured as a poem, Nebel reveals strophes of overwhelming visual beauty, where each shot stands out as the most meticulously chosen word. We welcome R. M.
