Victor Assié is a young actor questioning the meaning of his profession. Directors Ekiem Barbier and Guilhem Causse (Knit’s Island, Grand Prix in the Burning Lights 2023 competition) offer him a unique experiment: to explore an online life simulation through the guise of an avatar. Playing himself, he is projected out of his own body and onto a virtual island, a kind of digital counterpart to Belle-Île-en-Mer. There, he must start from scratch, beginning with the basics: getting a driver’s license, buying a car and a phone, finding a job… In this world that might appear dystopian at first glance, everything feels strangely familiar. The police are everywhere, you can get pulled over for speeding, and landing a gig as an actor seems like nothing short of a miracle. Following the public success of Knit’s Island, the filmmakers plunge once again into a parallel world where real people, crafting fictional versions of themselves, often strive to be more real than they are in real life. An absurd and hilarious five-part journey, in which surprise is the only certainty.
