That Breath

At the age of 88, my grandfather Fernando suggests we make a film together. This invitation is made after I tell him I’m moving out of his house. We start shooting as we ride the ups and downs of the generational gap. Even though we’ve lived under the same roof for 20 years, it is through the lens of the camera that we see each other like never before. The house where my grandfather lives becomes our meeting point. In this universe, where today is perpetual and tomorrow a possibility, we see the day go by, the flowers blossom, and the trees shed their leaves. Some eared doves nest in the back of the house and we start to watch them through the lens of the camera. We see a squab hatch and how they flee the nest only to rebuild it later.Making a film becomes a necessity, but also a challenge. Our struggle to make it is also a quest to keep our bond alive. “That Breath” is an intimate portrait of our relationship and of love and loss, an attempt at understanding what it means to be alive
