The Halfmoon Files

The voice of Mall Singh comes to us today through its recording on a Shellac disc at the beginning of the 20th century. It is among hundreds that make up a period sound archive documenting the “languages of the world”. Over the course of this investigation that seeks to find the man behind the voice, there emerges a film about colonialism and its representations, but also a ghost story.
