Dive into the wonderful world of cartists– flamboyant characters whose passion is modifying the appearance of their cars. Eccentric oddballs or genuine artisans? That is the question which this film sets out to answer with genuine curiosity, by getting to know these enthusiasts. Anthropology of an obsession.

“I get enjoyment when I'm doin' it. I forget the rest of the world and I belong to a single world of creative force. I do it to be loved,” declares one of Wild Wheels' many 'cartists', as he opens up, loud and proud, into Harrod Blank’s camera, standing in front of his extravagantly modified vehicle. A disarmingly charming joyride through the United States, this series of pint-sized portraits takes us on a journey to meet with some of the country’s most heart-warming weirdos, motorised maestros and other small-town celebrities as they articulate exactly what inspires them to pursue this most American of hobbies. Come gaze at the marvellous monstrosities these colourful characters have designed and built, but stay for their unexpectedly heartwarming tales of obsessive commitment, unbridled expression and local fame as Blank gleefully pops the hood of yesterday’s petrol-fueled Americana.
