The director engages in a dialogue with his older brother, once convicted of drug trafficking in French Guiana. Oscillating between the present and past recorded in his diary, the film opens the door to a rapprochement between the two men. But the older brother remains mysterious and elusive, and his skin seems to bear witness to what prison does to a man.
Guy’s face fills the frame. He speaks of what prison does to a man, how one counts the years lost, the years remaining. “One more year for us, one less for you,” his mother used to say. Now, Guy tells his story: how he tried to break free from that life, how he ended up in French Guiana, how he used to transport stacks of cash and kilos of powder. And prison, too. How one survives there. How one dies there.

This cinematic portrait is directed by his brother, Thibault. An attempt to open a dialogue with an older brother he barely knew, someone whose life, as a child, he never could have imagined. “We didn’t know your world, we had no idea,” he says. Shifting between Guy’s present-day life in Lyon and a past preserved in his “prison pages”, between familial tenderness and the starkness of his recollections, the film seems to trace a path toward a possible reconciliation for the two men. Yet Guy—who radiates a rare, magnetic presence, the kind shaped by a lifetime of trials and endurance—remains, to the very end, elusive and unknowable.
