Two lovers lay on a bed. One of the men is asleep, the other is awake. One is Palestinian, the other Israeli. Far away in their homeland, the war rages on, as the night goes on without end. A prose poem dedicated to the beloved, as if to ward off the inequality of conditions and resist the deluge of images, in an attempt to once again find a common language.
It begins with a whistle: faint, piercing, almost imperceptible, it nevertheless shapes our entire experience of the film from the very first moment. In the darkness of a room, in the stillness of night, a voice begins to tell their story, chanting in Hebrew. Two lovers share a bed; one is sleeping, the other lies awake. One is Palestinian, the other Israeli. Back home — far from here — war is raging, while the night seems to stretch on endlessly. From within this dimly lit room, Yotam Ben-David traces the thread of memory: shamefully suppressed protests, his voice worn thin from shouting in French and Arabic; his impossible childhood, growing up on land that once belonged to others, driven out. And still, these two bodies continue to love each other, in an attempt to forget the unbridgeable distances, the unbearable pain, the intolerable images. A prose poem dedicated to the beloved, as if to ward off the inequality of conditions and resist the deluge of images, seeking instead to find, once again, a common language.
