I Lost Sight of the Landscape

While going through a period of limbo, filmmaker Sophie Bédard Marcotte (L.A. Tea Time, VdR 2019) turns her camera on her playwright neighbour. Together, they dissect the various stages of artistic creation in irresistibly funny chapters. From Canada to Iceland, an intimate and universal exploration of the uncontrollable nature of human existence.
Sophie is heartbroken when she meets Gabriel. He wears a red hat. He’s her neighbor. He fixes her car. He’s a director. He is all of these things at once. Intrigued, Sophie decides to film him—to turn her camera toward someone else, to document a creative process, to reflect on art, to give meaning to her own work. All at once. She follows him through his research, his travels, his wandering, his endless grant applications, his rehearsals, his crises of confidence, his moments of revelation.
As weeks turn into years, film and life become inseparable. Lost in the process, Sophie turns to the tarot. The cards tell her anything is possible, that there is no right choice. But how do you hold on to what you're searching for? How do you find meaning in creation?
An absurd and mischievous film in which you are the hero/ine, unfolding across 16 possible chapters. A playful mise en abyme, a meditation on art, creation, life… and rocks!
